Red Brook Harbor

Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m, we set our course toward Pocasset, plowed our way out of the west passage and ventured out into Rhode Island Sound, passing the familiar sights of Castle Hill, the southern tip of Aquidneck Island punctuated by St. George's chapel, the opening to the Sakonnet River, the Westport shoreline and before we knew it we were steaming past Cuttyhunk in sparkling waters with 1 foot (+/-) seas and 10 knots of wind from the north. My unanticipated culinary adventure was cooking up some hockey pucks (egg and cheese on an English muffin) for breakfast underway. Doing this on a non-gimballed stove amid a pounding motion was quite an adventure -- one that was appreciated by all.

We peeled off into the eastern shore of Buzzard's Bay, snaking our way along a long and winding channel to Red Brook Harbor just after spotting the train bridge spanning the Cape Cod Canal. Within about 90-minuntes we were pulling into the peaceful port in the town of Pocasset -- home of several inlets, a central Bassets Island whose perimeter is sandy beach and offers another layer of protection making this one of the calmest harbors we've yet visited. Open skies to the west made for spectacular sunsets.
