A Day In Block

We awoke to another gray morning which eventually gave way to a beautifully sunny summer day. After relaxing aboard Puffling, Captain Dan offered to treat to lunch ashore at The Oar, a restaurant located at the Boat Basin which had moved seating for 200 outside on the lawn. The strict safety protocols in place, staff wearing masks, regular disinfecting of menus, rules including staying at one's table unless en route to the restroom, having separate clean and used pens for signing checks, all combined to open the window to a restaurant experience during a pandemic -- a window that for the more cautious me had been firmly shut. We sat in three Adirondak chairs facing the Great Salt Pond and enjoyed the scenery. I confess to having used about 1/2 a small bottle of hand sanitizer and also to enjoying a fabulous lunch.

It seems clear that we are making up for three months of restaurant-free living on this trip (lobster club sandwiches for Dan and me and a lobster grilled cheese for Bodhi -- hello!). The second and most momentous highlight of the day was attending Bodhi's piano recital -- an online event which contained pre-recorded performances of all the piano students. Participants watched at the same time and then tuned in via Zoom for a short, amiable, social gathering.
