We set our cruising sights for the weekend on Brenton Cove again, as it is home to a two-day regatta for Optimists and Lasers -- single handed boats currently in favor because one-person boats are more corona virus-response compliant, naturally commanding a 6-foot distance between competitors. Even as a newbie, Bodhi is loving Laser sailing. After a brief Laser sail this past week, Bodhi commented that this was the one experience that made him forget for a few precious moments that we are living in a world altered by a pandemic.
The southbound ride provided a palette of deep summer blues, a welcome change from last weekend's omnipresent gray, muted tones. In 10 knots of southerly breeze, we tacked back and forth until lowering the sails to approach a mooring just off Fort Adams. Izzie lived up to her reputation as an online dog, always preferring to lie down on some lumpy layer of line and Bodhi maintained his online presence by developing a "shortcut" for emergency situations -- wherein two to three clicks will alert your chosen primary contact that you've either been pulled over by police, are having a medical emergency or are being attacked. Immediately the shortcut sends the primary contact your location and begins filming a video of the interaction, with a reminder to notify others the interaction is being recoded. I'm feeling safer already and hope this can be passed onto others who would benefit.
Once at our destination, Bodhi and Izzie and I clambered aboard the inflatable for a harbor tour to check out public access points to the shore before settling into an evening on the boat - Caesar salads with sautéed shrimp and warm garlicky croutons for dinner. oxoPufflings
