Setting Sail for a Week Aboard Puffling

The weather gods gifted us with a glorious afternoon yesterday for a late-day sail to Brenton Cove. In relatively flat seas, 12-14 knots of SW wind and generally warm, sunny conditions, we rigged Puffling with a double reef and about 3/4 genoa unfurled. We glided south toward Newport. First we set out on port tack headed toward halfway rock, then we tacked back to the Aquidneck Island shore, then we turned back across the East Passage to the northern tip of Conanicut Island replete with verdant surroundings and expansive summer homes, then again back toward the more developed shore that is home to the Naval War College. We continued to criss-cross our way toward our Brenton Cove destination. While Dan and I soaked in the scenery, our now faster-paced Laser racer asked when we would >finally< arrive at our destination, feeling perhaps that a more apt name for our boat might be Escargot. He convinced us to unfurl every scrap of the genoa to pick up every knot of speed possible. Once secure at our destination we had dinner of what I will call fiesta salad -- iceberg, cukes, tomatoes,. corn, pickled onions, cilantro, cheddar cheese and sautéed shrimp with lots of lime juice and topped with "croutons" of tortilla chips with melted cheddar.
Father's Day started with a foggy and relaxed morning aboard the Puffster -- strawberry cornmeal griddlecakes for brunch and then Bodhi headed off for an afternoon of Laser sailing. Dan didn't seem to suffer from an afternoon of reading on the boat. We surprised Dan with a special Father's Day dinner -- takeout delivery from a Chinese restaurant. I wish I had a photo to capture and share with everyone the look of complete surprise on his face. Fun!
I hope all the terrific dads reading this blog had a wonderful day.
