Youth Challenge Regatta

This weekend's highlight was seeing Bodhi rise to the challenge of racing in a regatta in a new (to him) class of boat with minimal experience in it. Given that the host facility, Sail Newport, is located on Fort Adams State Park property, the State Department of Environmental Management calls the shots with programming during the pandemic. They allowed up to 40 boats to participate and 36 sailors (12 Laser and 24 Optimist) raced. While conditions were tricky both days, day one was a bit more hospitable -- about 8-10 knots from the north and then fading to near glassy conditions. Bodhi improved steadily throughout the day. Today's wind was more temperamental --gusty in the morning, then tapering to light, shifty conditions which diminished to a barely perceptible breeze. Highlights from today included rounding a windward mark in 5th place and finishing 7th overall in one race. Most importantly, Bodhi enjoyed the past few days on the water. We plan to spend the night here tonight, and head home in the morning.
